RYE BROOK, New York -- The Halo Awards, one of North America's highest honors for corporate social initiative, have awarded Xylem Inc. with its Gold Halo Award for their employee engagement.

In 2016, Xylem launched a employee service initiative through Xylem Watermark, its corporate citizenship program. Watermark is aimed at providing and protecting water resources for vulnerable communities around the globe.

According to a Xylem release, employees volunteered more than 21,000 hours in 2016. Nearly 4,000 employees across 35 countries built water towers, tested water sources, maintained water shed and, provided educational training on water, sanitation and hygiene issues.

Highlights of Xylem's service include building water towers in China, Cambodia and the Philippines with the Planet Water Foundations, and sending volunteers to work in the field with nonprofit partners in India and Cambodia.
