Simply using National Sanitation Foundation (NSF)-certified valves, pumps, fittings, tubing and other parts is not sufficient because the system has not passed the NSF 61 standard in accordance with NSF 372 requirements.

As oil prices continue to fall, one fact is clear—the MENA region is leading the conversation on the market's future. Since the Nov. 27 decision by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to maintain current production levels, the cost of crude has dipped as low as US$47 per barrel as of early January. Prices have dropped to the lowest level since the 2009 economic crisis.

The Al-Najaf Wastewater Treatment Plant is located in south Iraq, near the cities of Kufa and Najaf al-Asharaf. The plant's total design-build-operate project cost, including one year of operation before transferring the plant to the city, was less than $440 per cubic meter. The treatment plant handles 50,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day from the surrounding municipalities.

Sealless centrifugal pumps with a magnetic coupling have become more popular among end users in the chemical industry. Rare earth magnets have reduced the costs associated with magnetic couplings by decreasing magnet mass and required horsepower. This innovation has lowered the cost of not only the coupling, but also the overall operating cost.

The chemical and petrochemical industry in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has grown significantly during the last decade. The region has emerged as a well-known supplier in the global market, with increased attention on meeting international demand for downstream value-added products.

Modern pumps can benefit from a range of lubrication oils, from mineral to synthetic. While characteristics such as thermal stability and oxidation resistance are important to consider, every end user should focus on finding a lubricant with the longest life for a particular application. Extreme temperatures and contaminants can greatly reduce a lubricant's life span.

During the past 30 years, sine pumps have developed to meet the food and beverage industry need for a pump that is simpler, gentler and more reliable than traditional positive displacement pumps. Sine pumps are characterized by a sinusoidal rotor that creates four separate and symmetrical pumping chambers within the pump. The undulating action of the turning rotor gently transfers product.

Every raisin of the 50,000 tons of raisins processed annually at the National Raisin Co. plant in California undergoes a 35-cyle cleaning process and a thorough quality inspection before shipment. During this rigorous process, between 60,000 and 80,000 gallons of wastewater are generated each day, mostly from washing dust, sugar and other contaminants away from the raisins.
