Company Profile

GE's Power Conversion business applies the science and systems of power conversion to help drive the electric transformation of the world's energy infrastructure. Designing and delivering advanced motor, drive and control technologies that evolve today's industrial processes for a cleaner, more productive future, it serves specialized sectors such as energy, marine, industry and all related services.

GE was here, manufacturing machines for some of the very first commercial and industrial electrical applications ever. We continue to be here, delivering innovative electrical and mechanical power conversion solutions around the world. Our machines efficiently operate in challenging applications and severe environments where reliability and ease of maintenance is critical. GE offers a full range of products, from 1 to 100,000 horsepower machines, for highly demanding industrial applications around the world. The Power Conversion business serves industries such as Marine, Oil and Gas, Petroleum and Chemical, Power Generation, Mining and Metals, Pulp and Paper, Water/Wastewater, Cement, and general material processing. We can design to any global standard and certification due to our extensive engineering and manufacturing experience.

GE focuses on vertical pump motors.

Recently GE began to introduce a revolutionary series of vertical pump motors engineered to truly excel in severe inverter-duty applications. New Ultra™ Series low voltage motors have a unique set of key technical features that help meet the future challenges of less downtime and ever-increasing efficiency standards. These motors are innovations in component and manufacturing standardization. The Ultra Series totally enclosed (TEFC) and weather-protected (WPI) designs use many of same components such as fans, couplings, end shields, bearings, bearing caps, flanges, and even electrical designs. This enables us to deliver custom motors to users faster than most manufacturers in the industry. GE pump motors are manufactured standard with a GEGARD®2400 insulation system. This system, comprised of class H materials, exceeds NEMA MG1-31 (which is 3.1 times the nameplate voltage) for motors operating on inverters. The combination of this and our unique rotational trickle-treat varnish process provides a typical Corona Inception Voltage (CIV) of 2400 volts peak with a rise time of 0.1 seconds. This more than meets voltage spikes, commonly encountered in many applications, which often disable other motors. Another common cause of motor failure is shaft currents that build up during normal operation. These currents create voltage spikes that reach thrust and guide bearings causing them to vibrate in operation. Over a short period, this vibration (fluting) will degrade bearings to the point of failure. To divert shaft currents from bearings and protect driven equipment, GE includes standard thrust bearing insulation for motors 100 horsepower and up. Industry proven Aegis™ shaft grounding rings are also optional on all ratings. In response to ever-demanding performance requirements for deep well applications, our high thrust vertical pump motors have 20%+ higher thrust and extended performance over any other similar machine in the industry. As a direct result, Ultra motors can be air-cooled without any special bearing configuration. Working with GE has never been easier!
