Attendees will gain a thorough understanding of piping applications for pumped systems, with special focus on suction and discharge piping requirements. Industry standards—such as ANSI/HI 9.6.6 - Rotodynamic Pumps for Pump Piping—will be covered. Attendees will also hear additional commentary and guidance from Vaughan’s piping experts and visual representations produced with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis to provide intuitive understanding of core principles.
Important topics include:
- Piping size and fluid velocity
- Pipe fitting selection and impacts
- Considerations for non-Newtonian or high viscosity fluids
- Suction and discharge piping requirements
- Dealing with space constraints and other restrictions

Senior Process Engineer
Vaughan Co, Inc.
Erik Larson, P.E, is a senior process engineer at Vaughan Co, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Washington State University. Erik has over 13 continuous years of experience evaluating pump and piping systems, performing field assessments and reviewing pump applications. Erik has had formal training in fluid mechanics as part of his undergraduate degree. He has presented technical papers on sludge mixing, sludge rheology and simulation predictions for several professional conferences.

Senior Engineer
Vaughan Co, Inc.
Marilyn C. Pine, P.E, is a senior engineer at Vaughan Co, Inc. She holds a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Ohio State University and a master’s degree in industrial engineering from Ohio State. Marilyn has about 20 continuous years of experience performing hydraulic calculations and running large tank CFD simulations here at Vaughan Co. using the ANSYS/CFX software. She's had formal training in fluid mechanics as part of her undergraduate degrees. Marilyn has presented technical papers for ANSYS at their annual meeting as well as various Water Environment Federation (WEF) papers on sludge mixing, sludge rheology and simulation predictions.
