Parsippany, NJ – The Hydraulic Institute (HI) 2019 Annual Conference concluded with the Gala & Awards Dinner, Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the Vinoy Resort & Golf Club in St. Petersburg, Florida. During the program, HI presented awards for the following categories:

• Lifetime Achievement
• Member of the Year
• Standards Partner of the Year

Lifetime Achievement: HI recognized and honored Arnold Sdano, Senior Director, Pentair, as the 2018 HI Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Sdano has been a pioneer within HI Technical Affairs, lending countless hours to improving the industry by chairing numerous, important American National Standards committees.

With more than 40 years of service to the pump industry, Sdanohas served by being very active in HI but also active in SWPA, AWWA and ASME. With more than 25 years of service to the Hydraulic Institute, Sdano has always been willing to take on more than his fair share of HI work assignments. He has made immeasurable contributions to countless committees and work groups, chaired several inaugural committees, has touched all aspects of HI committee work and has previously received HI’s “Member of the Year” award.

Member of the Year Mr. Michael Mueller, Manager of Global Engineering Standards, Flowserve, has been selected as the 2018 HI Member of the Year. Michael distinguishes himself for the level and extent of his involvement which has played an important role in advancing the technical work of HI.

With more than 20 years of service to the pump industry, Mueller started his career as a reliability engineer. Throughout his career he has held various roles in quality, order engineering and engineering standardization and has served in management roles and as a subject matter expert. He brings his leadership skills to HI through holding leadership positions in technical committees that include:

• Co-Chair 14.1-14.2 Rotodynamic Pumps for Nomenclature & Definition Standard
• Vice-chair 20.3 Rotodynamic Pump Efficiency Prediction Standard

• Vice-chair General Standards Section

Standards Partner of the Year: HI has recognized William Marscher, President & Technical Director, Mechanical Solutions Inc., as the 2018 Standards Partner of the Year. Marscher has spent over 45 years working in the pump industry and spent much of that time volunteered with many national and international organizations sharing knowledge and developing standards. Marscher has contributed to the industry by authoring many, highly valued industry publications as well as conducting webinars and training courses.

Since Mechanical Solutions joined HI as a Standards Partners when the category was first created, Marscher has been active in numerous committees serving as both a leader and a volunteer, while encouraging others within his organization to do the same. His recent participation has helped advance the technical work of the Hydraulic Institute on: ANSI/HI 9.6.4 Rotodynamic Pumps for Vibration Measurement and Allowable Values where he served as Vice-chair, and ANSI/HI 9.6.8 Vibration Dynamics Guideline where he served on the steering committee for this first of its kind guideline.
