ZURICH (Jan. 21, 2014) – ABB, a power and automation technology group, has signed a cooperation agreement with NAPA, a software house supplying solutions for ship design and operation.

ABB and NAPA will cooperate to offer the NAPA Loading Computer and the electronic NAPA Logbook. The products will be offered under ABB’s Vessel Information and Control (VICO) portfolio, as part of a complete advisory solution devised to optimize ship efficiency.


ZURICH (June 7, 2013) – ABB announced its intention to acquire Dynamotive Ltd to expand its service offering in low and medium voltage drives and motors. Coalville, UK–based Dynamotive designs, commissions and upgrades systems of drives, controls and motors for industrial and marine applications and automotive test rigs. Dynamotive has about 40 employees and is privately owned. Its owners will continue to work for ABB.

HOUSTON (March 19, 2013) – ABB announced that its Onboard DC Grid will receive a Spotlight on New Technology Award at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) to be held May 6-9 in Houston. The awards honor innovative technologies for the oil and gas industry and related energy sectors that have the potential to significantly impact offshore exploration and production.


ZURICH, Switzerland (Feb. 12, 2013) – ABB has agreed to acquire APS Technology Group (APS), a San Diego, Calif.-based company that develops and markets solutions for the port industry. The acquisition will expand ABB’s crane system portfolio to the container terminal market. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2013.

ZURICH, Switzerland (Feb. 7, 2013) – ABB has won orders worth $160 million from Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd. for the design, supply, supervision of installation, testing and commissioning of the main electrical systems for seven next generation drill ships that will operate in the deep water oil and gas fields off the coast of Brazil. The orders were booked in the fourth quarter of last year and first quarter of this year.

(Jan. 4, 2013) – The integration of Thomas & Betts (T&B) and ABB’s low voltage electrical products businesses continues with the announcement of key executive and structural changes designed to further enhance the company’s value propositions. ZURICH, Switzerland (June 11, 2012) – ABB, a power and automation technology group, recently won an order from Rickmers Group in Germany to supply advisory systems for dynamic trim optimization and fleet management solutions for five multi-purpose vessels. Trim optimization means ballasting or loading the ship to achieve the floating position that consumes the least propulsion power.
