HOUSTON, Texas (March 2) – Forum Energy Technologies, Inc. (FET) is building one of the largest single refinery desalters ever built using its newest desalter technology, the EDGE™ ll, for a major US refiner on the Gulf Coast. The desalter is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2012. The Edge II desalter technology removes salt, water and sediment from crude oil before it is refined. The desalter is part of an expansion to the refinery.

Tom Collins, vice president - Electrostatic Process with FET’s Production and Infrastructure Division, commented, “We spent almost one year working very closely with our customers operations and engineering to assist in the design of a desalter that is able to treat highly viscous, heavy crude that tends to be emulsion sensitive. The characteristics of the oil, and the required specifications for treatment presented several design challenges that are addressed with this desalter.”
