ST. LOUIS – Nidec Motor Corporation (NMC) is opening a new facility in Fort Smith, Arkansas that will serve as a design engineering center. The center, which will open in March 2020, will support Nidec’s nearby Mena, Arkansas manufacturing operations and the company’s growth in existing and new markets.

Nidec will invest more than $200,000 in renovations and business equipment in the facility, and plans to hire approximately 25 mechanical and electrical engineers and technicians by 2022. The new facility will be engaged in design, commercial engineering, technical services, advanced manufacturing processes and product management activities for customized “Engineered-to-Order” motor products ranging from 200-3,000 horsepower.

“This center will enable ‘local’ support for our Mena operations and better serve our customer needs by expediting processes,” said Dave Lyle, Nidec Sr. Director Quality & Engineering Services. “We are excited that Nidec is investing in our commercial industrial motors and drives business unit so that we can expand our engineering and plant support capabilities and continue to grow our business.”
