TAIWAN - Yi-Chieh Huang, from Taiwan, has been named chief operating officer of SPE-Taiwan's affiliated company in the United States.

Huang worked in machinery manufacturing sectors for over 14 years. She began to oversee U.S. market operations of SPE after earning an MBA from MIT Sloan in 2020. As COO, Huang dedicates her time to advancing SPE's mission of providing mechanical sealing solutions to SPE's customers.

Huang leverages her business acumen in tandem with mechanical engineering expertise to lead product development and technology commercialization of dynamic sealing systems for machinery and energy industry applications. She provides executive oversight and strategic guidance for marketing, supply chain integration, and organizational innovation.  For more than a decade, Huang responded to local governments' environmental policies by developing innovative seal products that met lower energy consumption standards, resolving volatile organic compounds (VOC) emission for rotating equipment, and improving mechanical seals' (mean time between failure (MTBF) reliability.

Huang holds more than 30 patents spanning more than 20 types of mechanical seals and sealing systems. Huang's sealing solutions resulted in an average $4 million-plus annual cost reduction for customers. Furthermore, Huang led cross-functional teams to provide strong technical support in alignment with various market segments' customization specifications and coordinated with vendors and end-users to complete plant expansion projects. Also, Huang led a team to execute seal technology upgrading for an expansion project of an expansion project of a Phenol plant in Ningbo, China. This team successfully improved hundreds of pump seals' performance, reducing maintenance costs by $3.6 million in three years and enabling the end user to reach an annual production of 40,000-plus tons.
