Umeå, Sweden (June 18, 2012) – Sorubin, a producer of “new generation” energy efficient aeration products for water treatment, has made strong inroads among global food processing companies. The world’s largest food company, Nestlé, and European seafood producer, Abba Seafood, have both recently ordered the energy-efficient Microluft aerator to treat wastewater at its production units.

The world's largest food and beverage company and the world's 42nd largest company in all categories, Nestlé with headquarters in Switzerland, has approved the Swedish clean-tech company Sorubin as a supplier. Nestlé has already placed its first order with water treatment technology specialists Sorubin, for the company’s energy efficient aerator Microluft.

Microluft will be installed at Nestlé Waters (Suisse) SA in Henniez in southern Switzerland. This production plant produces and packages mineral water, carbonated soft drinks and juices. Nestlé Waters has two production units in Henniez, whose processing and cleansing water is pumped to the town's sewage treatment plant.

In the end of June, Sorubin will install the energy efficient aerator Microluft in one of these two factories. The objective is to pretreat the process water before it is pumped out, while providing sufficient agitation to prevent slurry build-up. The aerator is placed in the buffer tank which stores the process water before it is pumped to the municipal sewage treatment plant.

Nestlé Waters pays the municipal plats for the amount of pollution it pumps there. Pre-treatment of Nestlé's waste water will result in significantly reduced costs for water management. This means that the payback time for the investment in Microluft will be very short, most likely less than two years.

Abba Seafood, the largest producer of seafood in the Nordic countries, has ordered two Microluft aerators. The aerators will be installed at Abba Seafood's production facility in Kungshamn in western Sweden. The objective is to improve the quality of the factory's wastewater by using Microluft in the last cleansing tank. This will reduce the levels of released organic matter, and will also provide a good opportunity to reduce the emissions of nitrogen.

Microluft is a ‘next generation’ bottom mounted aerator that entrains atmospheric air to the bottom of dams and ponds by creating a vortex in a pipe. At the bottom, the air reaches the specially designed impeller that disperses the air as very fine bubbles into the surrounding water. The high yielding oxygen transfer rate per energy unit is many times higher than for incumbent aerator technologies. This means that the Microluft is highly energy efficient. Microluft has the potential to reduce energy consumption by up to 90 percent.

“This is an important milestone for us. Receiving orders from two such large and prestigious food producers like Nestlé and Abba Seafood makes us proud and convinced that we can attract many more customers in this market segment. We focus on expanding on the world market in an orderly and planned manner”, said Stefan Sandström, CEO of Sorubin.

Fast-growing Sorubin’s fresh and innovative offering of aeration products, with a focus on ingenious ways to help the customers save energy and money, has been very well received on the global market for water treatment. The company has received several green and innovation awards in 2011, including the Greentech Top 3 prize as one of Sweden’s three hottest CleanTech startups.

Sorubin is a leading provider of ‘new generation’ energy efficient aeration products for industrial levels of water treatment (wastewater, drinking water and landfill leachate). Sorubin’s product range consists of the revolutionary aerator series of Microluft, and Optusflow, a floating baffles system.

Sorubin’s customers are industries with wastewater treatment needs, and public water distributors (municipalities and water utilities).
