WARRENVILLE, Ill. (June 10, 2014) – Fuel Tech Inc. announced the receipt of four air pollution control (APC) contracts from customers in China, along with an APC order in the U.S. These awards have an aggregate value of approximately $5.2 million.

The first two contracts are for ULTRA systems for several sites in China with coal-fired units that are being retrofitted with nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction technology. Fuel Tech's ULTRA process provides for the conversion of urea to ammonia for use as a reagent in the selective catalytic reduction of NOx. Two additional China contract awards are for Fuel Tech's HERT High Energy Reagent Technology and NOxOUT Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) systems for multiple coal-fired boilers at two power generation facilities. Equipment deliveries for all four contracts are expected to occur in the third quarter of this year.

In the U.S., an order was received for an ULTRA system on a coal-fired boiler at a power generation facility. Delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of 2015.

Douglas G. Bailey, chairman, president and CEO, commented, “Our China Pacific Rim business is continuing to grow, driven primarily by China's focus on complying with NOx reduction requirements under that nation's 12th Five-Year Plan. The ULTRA system in the U.S. will allow the customer to minimize shipping and operating costs and increase urea sourcing flexibility, while minimizing safety concerns by avoiding the use of ammonia for this SCR application.”
