WAYNE, Pa. (Oct. 21, 2014) – The Fluid Sealing Association has appointed Michael Shorts as president, Phil Mahoney as vice president and Robert S. Coffee as member of its board of directors. Shorts is currently vice president and general manager for Triangle Fluid Controls Ltd. (TFC) located in Belleville, Ontario, Canada; Mahoney is serving as the design engineering manager for compression packing and mechanical seals for the A.W. Chesterton Company in Groveland, Massachusetts; and Coffee is the vice president of sales and marketing for Proco Products, Inc., in Stockton, California.

Shorts received his Bachelor of Science in engineering in 1996 and his MBA in 2005, both from
Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Immediately after graduating in 1996, Shorts was hired by Durabla Canada Ltd. (DCL), which is when his gasket experience began. Throughout his tenure at DCL, Shorts held several positions in production, laboratory, research and development, inside and outside sales, and as the general manager. In 2008, Triangle Fluid was created from DCL to act as the global non-U.S. marketing, sales and technical support of Durlon sealing products and the manufacturing sector of the PTFE gasket product lines.

Since 2008, Shorts has successfully guided the implementation of several business improvements at TFC, which includes the design and construction of a new facility, a new ERP system and several new automated pieces of equipment. He also acts as the international business development manager for TFC and travels extensively to promote the use of Durlon sealing products.

Shorts has also been an active member of the Fluid Sealing Association (FSA) since 2000. He currently serves as chair of the Membership Committee and sits on several other committees as well. He is the past chair of the Gasket Division and has served on the board of directors since 2012.

Mahoney, who has been appointed VP of the board, holds a Bachelor of Science in marine engineering and a Master of Science in engineering management. With more than 24 years of experience in the sealing industry, Mahoney has held various engineering positions, including applications engineering, product management and new product development.

Mahoney currently serves the FSA as vice chair of the Membership Committee, as well as a member of the Government Affairs Working Group, the Marketing Committee and the Technical Coordinating Committee. He is the past chair of the Compression Packing Division and the Compression Packing Technical Committee. He has been active in FSA since 2004.

Coffee has been in the expansion joint industry since 1980, working part-time after high school at Pathway Bellows. During his tenure at Pathway, he performed duties inside customer service for fabric expansion joints and then industrial dampers. In 1990, he transitioned to field salesman with responsibility for Northern California, Oregon and Washington.

In 1994, Coffee joined Proco Products as marketing manager. As vice president of sales and marketing (2007), his duties include traveling around the U.S. and Canada conducting engineering seminars and sales training, bringing more than 30 years of application experience as a result of his years behind the desk and in the field.

Coffee also serves the FSA as a member of the Marketing and Membership Committees.
