STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Atlas Copco this week opened a new manufacturing facility in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

The 330-employee facility will manufacture portable compressors and generators for the construction market, in addition to medical gas product for hospitals. The company invested some $25 million in the facility, according to an Atlas Copco release.

“This state-of-the-art factory will improve our production capabilities, enhancing productivity for our customers in North America,” said Andrew Walker, President of the Construction Technique business area.

Atlas Copco moved these operations from another facility in Rock Hill to this new building, which achieved a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design certification. The building incorporates lean manufacturing that enables efficient and flexible processes that are especially productive and environmentally sustainable. The new facility includes the U.S. customer center.
