COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The National Recovery Council of Malaysia recently announced recommendations for Malaysia to fully reopen its borders on March 1, 2022. With this welcomed news, the Turbomachinery Laboratory at Texas A&M University is moving forward with plans to hold the Asia Turbomachinery and Pump Symposium (ATPS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia May 23-26, 2022.
The biennial Asia Turbomachinery and Pump Symposium is a sister event to the annual, internationally-recognized Turbomachinery and Pump Symposium (TPS) in Houston, Texas. TPS just celebrated its 50th anniversary of supporting the industry in professional workforce development. Both symposia aim to develop new areas of research, bring awareness to training and professional education programs, and offer networking opportunities for a variety of industries. TPS sees more than 350 exhibiting companies and more than 5,000 attendees each year.
Conveniently located in the fastest-growing market for energy, oil and gas, and manufacturing, ATPS is the ideal training and networking opportunity for professionals working with rotating equipment. The Asia Pacific conference continues the Turbomachinery Laboratory’s mission of adding value to the international turbomachinery and pump industries through education, research, and workforce development. It features an international exhibition and a unique technical program, crafted by an advisory committee of key industry players and Texas A&M University professors. The Turbomachinery Laboratory is pleased to maintain its presence in the Asia Pacific region, having last executed ATPS in Singapore in 2018.
Turbo Lab Director of Global and Corporate Partnerships, Greg Gammon, has worked over the past four years to develop partnerships with engineers and technicians working with rotating equipment systems in the Asia Pacific region. ”The global pandemic shut us down along with most international programs. We are happy and eager to be back with our face-to-face symposium in support of the energy sectors who are seeing a resurgence of growth,” Gammon states. “We continue to watch guidance for international travel and will provide our attendees with clear information in mid-March on traveling to Malaysia.”
The technical program consists of lectures, tutorials, case studies, and short courses on a wide topic range including reliability modeling; risk assessment; life extension; reciprocating and centrifugal compressors; stability and performance; rotordynamics; and seals, bearings, and gears used in turbomachinery and pumping applications. The exhibit, lasting two and one-half days, will include 35-50 companies spanning the turbomachinery, pump, chemical engineering, oil and gas, water-wastewater, aerospace, power, and offshore industries.
ATPS has seen its share of obstacles from the COVID-19 pandemic, limitations to virtual meetings, and travel restrictions. For this reason, the Turbomachinery Laboratory will provide a travel preparation kit in mid-March to those registered for the conference.
The Turbomachinery Laboratory is excited to be moving forward with ATPS 2022.
